Restricting API access
The Vulkan Hardware Database offers a number of public apis. These can be used to fetch information like report details in a structured way using the JSON format.
But with the internet becoming an increasingly hostile environment, especially because of AI bots and scrapers, providing public apis is becoming more and more of an issue. In particular, the apis I’m providing fetch information from a database, so spikes in automated requests have a negative impact on the site’s performance and availability.
There are measures in place to tackle that automated traffic, but I can still see that those apis are still heavily scraped.
So as of today, I’m limiting access to a first set of API routes through API keys. Without such a key, access is blocked.
If you use the apis to fetch the list of all available reports (e.g. getreportlist) and/or fetch report details (e.g. getreport) and want to continue to do so, please reach out to me and I’ll set up an api key for you.
